We are trying to do an enterprise activation with the Blackberry Simulator as mentioned in the following post
How To - Connect the BlackBerry Simulator to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server
Last Updated: 22 June 2006
Article Number: DB-00049
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary
This article applies to the following:
BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ 4.0 and later
BlackBerry® Java™ Development Environment (JDE)
BlackBerry Simulator 4.0 and later
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Procedure
Using the BlackBerry JDE 4.0 (or BlackBerry Simulator 4.0), the BlackBerry Simulator can be connected to an account on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Run the BlackBerry Simulator from the JDE or from the Start menu.
In the BlackBerry Simulator, click Turn Wireless Off.
Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.0 or later.
Open BlackBerry Device Manager 4.0 or later.
From the BlackBerry Simulator, click Simulate and select USB Connected or Serial Connected.
Select YES to switch to the new BlackBerry wireless device.
Follow the instructions to generate a new encryption key.
On the Initial Plug-in: Verifying Applications dialog box, click Cancel.
Once the initial synchronization is complete, the enterprise activation begins.
After the enterprise activation is complete, you will be able to use the BlackBerry Simulator like a regular BlackBerry device.
Note: Additionally, you may need to remove the net_rim_sdk_simulationSB.cod file from the BlackBerry Simulator directory. However, do not delete this COD file because you will need to restore it if you use the BlackBerry Simulator with the Email Server Simulator (ESS). After doing so, delete the DMP files from the BlackBerry Simulator directory, start the BlackBerry Simulator, and repeat the steps above.
To verify that the BlackBerry Simulator has connected to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server using Serial Bypass, complete the following steps:
In BlackBerry Device Manager, click the Statistics tab.
If the BlackBerry Simulator is connected, you should see Bypass. Expand this menu to view statistics (for example, packets sent/received).
OR
If only the Time Connected statistic appears, without the Bypass statistics, the BlackBerry Simulator is not connected to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server over Serial Bypass and the enterprise activation cannot occur. Delete the DMP files from the BlackBerry Simulator directory and complete the above steps in order to remove the net_rim_sdk_simulationSB.cod file from the BlackBerry Simulator directory. Alternatively, you can attempt this procedure with a BlackBerry device to verify that your BlackBerry Enterprise Server configuration supports Serial Bypass.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But after connecting the Simulator by clicking on USB Connected option in the Simulator, we are not getting the "Select YES to switch to the new Blackberry device" option anywhere. Can anyone suggest what might have gone wrong?
There are a couple of potential problems. Try the following suggestions. Hopefully one of them resolve the issue. Good Luck!
Hi,
Since we do not have a licensed BES, we have downloaded the trial version of the BES Server and have configured the same. So can you please let me know how do we install BDM through Enterprise option?
Regards,
Vijay
Hi,
I tried using 8120 simulator, Enterprise activation always goes for a toss. I am using BES 4.1 server.
Once I got activated, but I had to resinstall BES server and also the 8120 client configuration got messed up, but after that I never got a successful activation.
I followed the post here exactly, but the activation always ends up with :
Synchronizing service desktop....
----------------------------------------
*Empty*
and it hangs there forever.
[I use the desktop manager/USB simulaton to connect to the BES server]
Please let me know what else needs to be done. Any help on this will be deeply appreciated.
Thanks
Sathish
Hi Sathish,
It is not at all possible to do Enterprise Activation for simulators as far as i Know. But you say that you did Enterprise Activation once am not sure what you say , but the thing is it can not be done for Simulators and there is no need of EA for simulator. Can you let me know why you r trying to do EA for Simulator.
Try,try,try.........
Hi Saravanan,
This is for a small project that we are doing, related with Sametime/Domino. I have done a successful activation after 2 days of trying wierd things. Hence I am trying it again. Please let me know if you can thing of anything that could help me.
Thanks
Sathish
Saravanan,
Also, the first posting in this thread by Vijayaraghavan is about activating thru simulator, right? Why did you think that activation cannot happen thru simulator?
Anyway, do you know who can help me with debuggging from ROUT logs etc?
The following was in the ROUT [blackberry server] logs:
could the Receive_UNKNOWN causing the problem?

Hi Sathish ,
Just go thru the post carefully. In the last line he has mentioned its not working the way he mentioned. Actually this was the thing which was given in another refernce site but it didnt happen properly thats why he has asked for it. So EA cannot be done for the simulator. Am telling this because we tried a lot to do that but we couldn do it... But am not still 100% sure so we need some one to answer our question... Also What ever Vijaya Ragahavan has posted is for getting clarified and we were just trying on those points and he is a colleague of mine so dont get confused with that...
Try,try,try.........
Saravanan,
DId you mean the "Not getting "Yes"" in Vijay's post? If that is the case, I know how to get that dialog.
btw) are you online on any IM? please let me know.
[satv73 is my Y! id]
Also, I am able to see a bunch of entries in the service book after the activation attemp starts. This shows something has progressed but doesn;t go thru well for some reason. [I got the hope coz, I did that somehow last week and I lost it as the JDWP didnt save the state]
Ok, now I am able to enterprise activate the simulator, but this time I used the Wifi/OTA settings.
Thanks
Sathish
Congratz ! Sorry if i have misleaded you in this... :-(
Try,try,try.........
Hi Sathish, can you explain me how did you configure the wifi/ota settings to get this working?
Thanks a lot.
